Dr G S Rawat has done Bachelors and Masters in Botany from Kumaon University, Nainital. He also did his Ph D in Taxonomy & Ethnobotany from the same college. He taught Plant Ecology and Taxonomy at Kumaon University. He also served at Botanical Survey of India for some time. He is a member of the IUCN/SSC Orchid and Medicinal Plant specialist groups and a life member of the Association for Plant Taxonomy. He joined Wildlife Institute of India in 1986 as a Professor and has held various positions at the Institute since then. He is Dean at Wildlife Institute of India.
