What is Plant Ecology & Conservation?
Dr G S Rawat: “Plant ecology is a subdiscipline of ecology which studies the distribution and abundance of plants, the effects of environmental factors upon the abundance of plants, and the interactions among and between plants and other organisms. Conservation is the preservation or efficient use of resources in an efficient or ethical manner.”
How I got into Plant Ecology & Conservation?
Dr G S Rawat: “I did Bachelors and Masters in Botany from Kumaon University, Nainital. I also did Ph D in Taxonomy & Ethnobotany from the same college. I taught Plant Ecology and Taxonomy at Kumaon University. I also served at Botanical Survey of India for some time. I joined Wildlife Institute of India in 1986 as a Professor and have held various positions at the Institute since then. I am Dean at Wildlife Institute of India.”
